Safe Streets Advocacy

Cycling safety isn’t just about personal responsibility – it also requires advocacy for better infrastructure and policies in our community. At Shifting Gears Bike Shop, we believe that everyone deserves access to safe streets for walking, biking, and rolling.

Safe cycling infrastructure, such as bike lanes, intersection improvements, and multi-use paths and trails, plays a crucial role in encouraging more people to choose active transportation. When people feel safe and comfortable riding bikes, it benefits the entire community by reducing congestion, improving air quality, and promoting public health.

There are several ways to get involved in our community.
— Attend Planning Commission meetings when new subdivisions are being proposed so decision makers know you support multi-use trails in new developments
— Talk to your alderperson about the importance of safe streets for everyone
— Join the Rock Trails Coalition or another local advocacy group to help promote access to trails
— Encourage local businesses to add bike parking

Together, we can make a real difference in creating the safe, accessible community we all deserve.

Shifting Gears is proud to support these safe streets initiatives. Let us know how else we can help you get involved and make your voice heard!
